Great news! Major League Eating is proud to announce the return of The West Virginia Three Rivers Festival Pepperoni Roll Eating World Championship to our 2020 slate of sanctioned eating contests. Major League Eaters are warmly encouraged to sign up for the chance to return to Fairmont, WV—the global capital of both competitive and recreation Pepperoni Roll consumption—for a shot at glory and money. And pepperoni rolls. So many pepperoni rolls.

The classic Pepperoni Roll consists of a soft white yeast bread roll with pepperoni baked in the middle. It is delicious. The rolls originated as a lunch option for the coal miners of north-central West Virginia in the first half of the 20th century. The Roll that is sanctioned for The West Virginia Three Rivers Festival Pepperoni Roll Eating World Championship weighs 3.25 ounces.

At the last year’s Championship, Joey Chestnut did Joey Chestnut things, eating a staggering 43 pepperoni rolls in 10 minutes to set a new world record in the discipline. Former record-holder Geoffrey Esper would eat 37.5 and Darron Breeden finished in third place with 26.

But that’s all in the past. Let us to look to the future—to May 23rd, 2020. A date destined for sporting greatness. Do you dare attempt to break Chestnut’s record of 43 Pepperoni Rolls in 10 minutes? Is second-place good enough for you? (Be honest. Maybe?) Do you simply want to see the best in the world do what they do so well? This is The West Virginia Three Rivers Festival Pepperoni Roll Eating World Championship! At the table or in the crowd—don't you ever miss it!

About The West Virginia Three Rivers Festival! This year marks the 41st year for The West Virginia Three Rivers Festival and the 9th year as host of The Pepperoni Roll Eating World Championship. The dates for this year’s Festival are May 21st, 22nd and 23rd, 2020. The Pepperoni Roll Eating World Championship will be held on the last night of The West Virginia Three Rivers Festival—Saturday May 23rd—at 8pm.
