At the 2018 Championship, Carmen Cincotti ate 22lb of strawberry shortcake in eight minutes to set a new world record in the discipline. That record is on the line this year and one imagines that it will fall and that it will fall badly, such is the year-on-year growth and development of Major League Eaters across the board. What in 2018 seemed unimaginable today feel almost normal. That’s progress.
