JOEY CHESTNUT SETS WORLD ICE-CREAM SANDWICH EATING RECORD!
Well, that was something. Joey Chestnut, the #1-ranked eater in the world, set a world Ice-Cream Sandwich eaten record by downing 25.25 Baked Bear Ice Cream Sandwiches in six minutes. But then again, so did Matthew Stonie, the #2-ranked eater in the world. At the end of regulation, both eaters were tied and the event headed to overtime: The rules, truncated due to time pressures, were simple: Eat a Baked Bear Ice Cream sandwich, show the emcee an empty mouth and walk away with the glory and the cash. And so it was that Chestnut claimed the crown. He is undefeated on the year.
In post-match comments, Chestnut did not mince words, describing Stonie as a beast (in a complimentary fashion; his remarks should not be construed a criticism of Matt's grooming or appearance). Stonie did not come to come second. Uncharacteristically, it was Chestnut who set the pace early and it was Stonie who closed the gap as time narrowed. Both eaters were exceptional at the table and gracious in both victory and defeat. Others ate less.
The 2018 Baked Bear World Ice-Cream Sandwich Eating Championship can't come soon enough.
