MATT STONIE SETS NEW WORLD PEEPS-EATING RECORD!

There is a new World Record in the Peeps discipline and it is 255 Peeps in five minutes. That mark was set at the 2017 National Harbor World Peeps Eating Championship and it was set by Matthew Stonie. Stonie set the previous record at the 2016 inaugural event, notching 200 Peeps in the same amount of time. So, to recap, same guy, same time limit, just a bigger number.

And what a bigger number. We shall say it again, lest the enormity of the feat render you dulled to data: 255 Peeps in five minutes. It is a record that Stonie and all humanity can be proud of.

Stonie was at his trademark fastest at the event, a true sprint at just five minutes. Out of the blocks and never slowing, never pausing, never skipping a beat on his way to victory. Geoffrey Esper came second with 238 Peeps in five minutes—a total that bested the previous world record but today would see its way to silver. Esper has declared himself in mid-season form in the early months of the 2017 calendar. Carmen Cincotti finished third and was taunted by Joey Chestnut on social media for his efforts. But maybe he deserved it. Others ate less.

The National Harbor World Peeps Eating Championship is in the books for another year. Do we dare dream of a day when someone will eat 300 Peeps in five minutes? We do. Yes, we do.
