REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS CLOSED DUE TO CAPACITY!
Major League Eating is proud to announce the return of The Acme Oyster Eating World Championship for 2016. This is a well-established challenge of handspeed and swallowation that demands greatness from each and every eater who dares to pick up the fork and step to the table. Those who do accept this challenge, however, are greatly rewarded. The event will once again take place at the New Orleans Oyster Festival—the people’s festival. The cool people, that is. There are no greater fans than those at the New Orleans Oyster Festival. And there is no greater honor than their applause and approval. It is earned, never given.
At last year’s Championship, Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas—the greatest oyster eater in the history of the world—ate 41 dozen oysters in eight minutes. (Some quick math. Forty-one dozen. So, 41 times 12, equals 492, times six is 2952, divided by three is 984, squared is 968,256, divided by 984, divided by two is, of course, 492. That's 492 oysters in eight minutes. Or 61.5 oysters a minute. Or 1.025 oysters a second.) Local hero Adrian Morgan and Ms Michelle Lesco of Tucson, AZ—a place, to be fair, that is not know for its oysters—tied for second with 36 dozen.
Major League Eaters are warmly invited to sign up to compete in this year’s event. The Acme Oyster Eating World Championship at the New Orleans Oyster Festival is soon upon us. At the table or in the crowd—don't you ever miss it!
