MATT STONIE SETS WORLD PASTA-EATING RECORD!
History was made at the Martorano’s Masters World Pasta Eating Championship At Paris Las Vegas. When the clock read 0:00, Matt Stonie, the #1-ranked eater in the world had consumed 10lb of pasta in 8 minutes to set a new World Record. The pasta in question was spaghetti and the sauce was flavorful and tomato-based. Event host Chef Steve Martorano, he being the head of state of the Martorano restaurant empire, calls it Sunday Gravy and it is a more apt description than mere sauce. Sauce sounds thin and weak. Gravy is bold. A statement of culinary intent. Gravy it is.
Stonie, Stonie, Stonie. When he is old—and he will be old, as we all must be, even though it is impossible to think such things when we gaze upon his youthful countenance today—he will look back on 2015 and he will think, "That was a good year." It is impossible to recall any human being having a better year than the one Matt Stonie is presently enjoying. The guy will probably win the lottery next week or discover he is the king of some long, lost republic. Or maybe he'll just find a lost phone charger. Point is this: It is Stonie's year. The rest of us can simply watch.
And so it was at the Martorano’s Masters World Pasta Eating Championship At Paris Las Vegas. Stonie lead from the front and blitzed the competition in the eight-minute event. At the risk of sound repetitive, he lead from the front, dominated the middle and closed strong. He did what pros do. He did his job. On reflection, it is hard to offer even the slightest piece of constructive criticism. Dude put on a clinic.
And others ate and they ate with pride and they ate to the best of their abilities and there is no failure in placing behind Stonie. Miki Sudo, the #1-ranked female eater in the world, finished second, with 7lb of pasta in eight minutes; Michelle Lesco continued her strong 2015 with 6.25lb for third. Others ate less and the full results are below.
But make no mistake. This was Stonie's hour. It is Stonie's year. How long shall he reign?
