Winchell's Donuts San Diego Fair

Santa Ana, CA, May 28, 2004 – The world’s finest competitive eaters will converge at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, CA on Saturday, June 12, 2004, for the first stop of the Winchell’s World Donut Eating Championship.
At stake is $500 in prize money and a full travel and lodging package for the final championship event, as is the prestigious title of San Diego County Fair Donut Eating Champion. The top five finishers will also be guaranteed a spot in the September finals, where $1,500 will go to the winner.
The current world donut-eating record is held by Eric ‘Badlands’ Booker, who consumed 48 donuts in eight minutes. That record, however, will be challenged by a top field of gurgitators at the Winchell’s events.
Already slated to compete are Rich ‘The Locust’ LeFevre, the fifth-ranked eater in the world, and his wife Carlene LeFevre, the ninth-ranked eater in the world. Rich LeFevre’s records include 25 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes and an astounding 10 pounds of chili in 10 minutes, while Carlene’s gurgitory feats include a fourth place finish in the Travel Channel’s hit program “Battle of the Buffets.”
