07-02-2010
As it has done for years, Nathan’s Famous will donate 100,000 of its signature world famous beef hot dogs to a hunger relief charity during the proceedings of the company’s annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, NY. This Sunday, Nathan’s Famous President Wayne Norbitz will make the presentation to a representative of The Food Bank For New York City, which is part of the Feeding America network.
“Nathan’s Famous is pleased to present this donation to the Food Bank for New York City and we are excited to have them represented at our famed July Fourth celebration,” said Wayne Norbitz, president and COO of Nathan’s Famous, Inc. “This donation ceremony has become an integral part of our July Fourth program.”
"Our research indicates that 3.3 million New Yorkers are having difficulty affording food," said Patrick Mooney, Director of Philanthropy at the Food Bank For New York City. "In these very difficult times, we are especially pleased to accept this donation, which will assist us in our ongoing fight against hunger in New York City."
The donation ceremony will occur alongside the original Nathan’s Famous on Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island, NY, where the annual hot dog eating contest takes place. Each year tens of thousands gather to watch the biggest competitive eating event in the world, while millions watch the event live on ESPN.
