Weekend Recap: Deep Dish Takes Taco Crown at Balmoral Park

Pat "Deep Dish" Bertoletti won the first ever Pepe’s Soft Taco Eating Challenge at Balmoral Park Racetrack on Saturday, August 1st after downing 33 soft beef tacos in the five minute contest. Bertoletti, eating just south of his Chicago hometown, had to stave off stiff competition from three other top-20 ranked Major League Eaters in addition to sports radio host John Jurkovic and a two local qualifiers.
The 33 beef tacos which were topped with lettuce, cheese and tomatoes are equivalent to 9.24lbs. Bertoletti took home $1,000 with the win while Gravy Brown, also a Chicago resident, took home $500 with his second place finish of 28 tacos. Erik "The Red" Denmark (25 tacos) and "Nasty" Nathan Biller (19 tacos) finished in 3rd and 4th places, respectively.
