NEW MLE POLL SHOWS PALIN DESTROYING BIDEN
09-05-2008
New York, NY, Sept. 5, 2008 -- Major League Eating has released polling results that show Alaska Governor Sarah Palin overwhelming Senator Joe Biden in a hypothetical hamburger-eating match-up. According to more than 99 percent of respondents, Palin would beat Biden if they faced off in a one-on-one Krystal hamburger-eating contest.
Major League Eating, the world body that governs the fast-growing sport of eating, conducted a Web-based snapshot poll on September 4, the day after Palin delivered her highly scrutinized speech before the Republican National Convention. The poll asked which of the two vice presidential candidates would win in a one-on-one Krystal-eating contest and full 109 of 110 respondents picked Palin.
“It stands to reason that someone nicknamed “Barracuda” would win an eating contest, but this has to be a disappointment for Biden,” said George Shea, president of MLE. “It also reinforces Palin’s populist bona fides, as there are no elitists or sophisticates in the world of competitive eating.”
Shea also offered competitive eating as a platform to decide the upcoming presidential elections if the race is too close to call, as it was in 2000.
“I don’t think anyone wants to go back to the Supreme Court to choose the president,” Shea said. “We are willing to run an eating contest between the candidates to determine who will run this country. Competitive eating ability is certainly as relevant to the Office of President as the issues that have been discussed during the campaign this year.”
MLE is now preparing for the Krystal Square Off V, the world hamburger-eating championship to be held in Chattanooga, TN, on September 28, 2008. World champion eaters Takeru Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut will meet at the event in a highly anticipated rematch.
