Eater Donations Push Initial Hunger Charities Gift to $15,000
11-29-2007
Major League Eating and the International Federation of Competitive Eating have increased the initial donation of $10,000 to hunger charities to $15,000 after additional donations have flooded in from league eaters. With matching donations from Food Bank for New York City partners, this pushes the total raised thru this effort to over $35,000.
The total donation will now provide 45,000 meals to the hungry and advances the campaign to raise $100,000 for hunger charities.
The fundraising initiative, which will include donations from the league, eaters, clients and fans, follows in the footsteps of IFOCEgives, a similar effort that raised more than $50,000 for charities including Second Harvest and the American Red Cross.
“We have been overwhelmed by the swift response of the eaters,” said president Richard Shea. “Small donation go a long way and we hope to further leverage our platform to combat hunger.”
