East Hartford Venue Change
05-18-2007
Last evening, Fox’s hyperbolic weather man Joe Bastardi wrote the following in all caps:
“METEO MAP DISCO HAS BEEN CUT AND SHOULD BE ON LINE SOON.. COVERS EASTERN STORM AND LOOKS AT THE CARIBBEAN”
The ‘eastern storm’ he is referring to is part of the same system that caused unthinkable damage to Chappaqua, NY on Wednesday. The storm has been building ever since and is currently about to strike the northeastern seaboard. It will be a sustained rain event. This system will deliver rain to East Hartford all day Saturday and that has had many eaters and fans worried.
Major League Eating has issued the following statement:
“The East Hartford contest is typically held in an open-air parking lot. For years we’ve been blessed with good weather for this event. In consideration of this Saturday's forecast, we’ve elected to hold the contest in a building that is the former home of an Ames department store. This vacant Ames is in the same strip mall as the Nathan’s Famous in East Hartford. It is the ideal replacement venue for this qualifier.”
The winner of the East Hartford contest will be given a spot in the 2007 Nathan’s Famous International July 4th Hot Dog Eating Championship. He or she will also be presented a trophy, a year’s supply of hot dogs, and a DVD copy of “The Good Girl.” In this highly acclaimed film, Jennifer Aniston plays a store clerk who strikes up an affair with a stock boy who considers himself the embodiment of Holden Caulfield. John C. Reilly and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s brother also star.
