Can LeFevre Keep Posole Title in the Family
11-14-2006
Competitive eating fans are focused on a big battle set to take place on Saturday at the World Posole Eating Championship at Sky City Casino in beautiful Acoma, New Mexico.
At the event, Pat Bertoletti, the mohawked Chicagoan who was recently named the third biggest force in major league eating, will look to secure the Posole title. Bertoletti will be challenged by Rich LeFevre, the eighth-ranked eater in the world. While Bertoletti has been performing better than LeFevre this year, there is an element of family pride on the line that may swing the outcome in LeFevre’s favor.
Fans remember that it was at Sky City in November of 2004 that the fair Carlene LeFevre (right) spanked her husband by eating 109.75 ounces of posole in 12 minutes to his 96.25 ounces. With the win Carlene became world posole champ.
Posole is a stew made from water-soaked corn kernels with pork, chili and seasonings. Carlene’s posole record from 2004 has yet to be broken and she will be in Acoma to root on her main man who the people of Acoma call The Locust.
