Nathan's Famous Donates to City Harvest

Nathan’s Famous will make a donation of 10,000 hot dogs to City Harvest, the world's oldest food rescue organization and a member of Second Harvest, the country’s largest charitable hunger-relief organization.

Nathan’s Famous President Wayne Norbitz will make the donation during the annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest that occurs on July 4th in Coney Island, NY.

“City Harvest does so much good for the people of New York City that it’s our pleasure to host them each year at the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July celebration,” said Wayne Norbitz, president and COO of Nathan’s Famous. “Hunger is a terrible problem in America and we are pleased to assist City Harvest, a group the feeds more than 260,000 New Yorkers each week.”

The Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest grows in popularity each year. Roughly 10,000 people attend the event live while over a million households tune in to the live ESPN broadcast.

The Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, believed to be in its 91st year, is a culmination of a seven-week hot dog-eating contest circuit. Qualifying events occur in Miami, FL; Philadelphia, PA; Las Vegas, NV; Atlanta, GA; Norfolk, VA; Phoenix, AZ; San Francisco, CA; Tokyo, Japan, and other cities.

The Nathan's Famous System consists of 355 franchised or licensed units, six company-owned units (including one seasonal restaurant) and more than 5,900 Branded Product points of sale, located in 46 states, the District of Columbia and 13 foreign countries featuring the Nathan's, Miami Subs and Kenny Rogers Roasters brands. Founded in 1982, City Harvest is the world’s first food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding New York City’s hungry men, women and children. This year, City Harvest will collect 21 million pounds of excess, nutritious food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers and farms. This food is then delivered free to charge to more than 600 community food programs throughout New York City using a fleet of 15 trucks and volunteers on foot. Each week, City Harvest helps over 260,000 hungry New Yorkers find their next meal.
