There will be an amateur Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest in Boston this weekend as part of the 16th annual Hot Dog Safari, which is hosted by Eddie Andelman and raises funds to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.
Pete Davekos, the unofficial baked kibbee eating champion of Boston’s North Shore, will compete alongside other aspirants.
“Boston is fast becoming a competitive eating hub,” said George Shea, chair of IFOCE. “While the winner of the Safari contest doesn’t advance to Coney Island, they do get a shot at regulation hot dog eating and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a kid like Davekos become a circuit player in 2007.”
The contest will take place on Sunday, June 4 at 2pm near the Hot Dog Safari's VIP area at Suffolk Downs Racetrack. For details on the Hot Dog Safari visit www.hotdogsafari.com and to find out how to help fight Cystic Fibrosis you can visit www.joeyfund.org
