Chicago eater Patrick Bertoletti today won the GoldenPalace.net Corned Beef and Cabbage Eating Championship at Ned Devine’s Irish Pub in Boston, consuming 5.75 pounds of corned beef and cabbage in 10 minutes.
Along with the coveted title of Corned Beef and Cabbage Eating Champion, Bertoletti won $2,500 out of a total purse of $5,000 provided by GoldenPalace.net. The International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE) sanctioned the event.
“It should be noted that citizens of Ireland view this contest in the same way citizens of Boston view the Super Bowl,” said Richard Shea, president of the IFOCE. “Bertoletti will be a hero throughout Ireland and the Celtic world.”
Badlands Booker ate five pounds to place second in the contest and earn $1,250; Eater X, Tim Janus consumed 4.75 pounds to place third and win $750; Crazy Legs Conti ate 4.5 pounds for fourth place and $325, and Pat from Moonachie ate 3.75 pounds for fifth place and $175. Philbin’s strong finish sets the wheels in motion for an invigorated campaign to establish a sister-city relationship between Moonachie, NJ and Little Rock, AR.
