Thomas Defeats Chestnut at Krystal Square Off, $5,000 Raised in Chattanooga

09-06-2005

After being handed back-to-back defeats in wings and waffles - at the hands of men - The Black Widow struck back in Chattanooga.

The first of the year's Krystal Square Offs took place today pitting Chestnut and Thomas against one another for the second time in as many days. The two went Krystal for Krystal throughout the eight-minute contest, but in the end it was Sonya Thomas who came away the victor. She also set a new American hamburger record by downing 57 Krystals. Chestnut consumed 56 Krystals.

The event, which took place in front of a sell out crowd at Bellsouth Stadium, generated $5,000 in donations for disaster relief directly from Krystal Company and also from generous eaters and fans. In all, the IFOCE helped raise $25,000 during the weekend to fight hunger and provide relief for all those suffering in America's Gulf Coast.

Founded in 1932, Krystal restaurants have become more than sparkling-clean eateries where friendly employees serve up fresh, indulgently delicious food. Krystal has become a cultural icon and an experience that virtually every man, woman and child in the South has shared. Nearly everyone in the region has a Krystal memory. The Krystal brand and the great food, service, value and setting that it represents has taken a prominent place in the South’s cultural landscape. The Krystal Company is the oldest quick service restaurant chain in the South and the second oldest in the United States. The Chattanooga, Tenn.-based company currently has more than 420 restaurants in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
