Janus Sets New Record at GoldenPalace.net Event

Tim Janus set a new world record of 31 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes at the Nebraska State Fair, winning $1,000 and replacing Sonya Thomas as leader in the hunt for the GoldenPalace.net $20,000 world record bonus.

Janus topped Thomas' previous records of 25 and 21.5 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes at events in Los Angeles and San Diego. Placing second in Nebraska was Mike Nafziger, who consumed 14 grilled cheese sandwiches to earn $750, and placing third was Jason Smith, who ate 13 1/2 for $250.

Thomas, who has dominated the circuit during 2004 and 2005, has had several tight matches recently against rookie Joey Chestnut. This latest performance by Janus shows that the competition at the top of the game is closer than many thought.
