Black Widow Sonya Thomas Wins GoldenPalace.net Grilled Cheese Eating Contest

Sonya Thomas of Alexandria, VA, won the first in a series of 15 GoldenPalace.net grilled cheese eating contests in San Diego, CA, downing 21.5 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes. Thomas' personal best in the grilled cheese discipline is 25.

Placing second was Richard LeFevre with 20 grilled cheese sandwiches and third was Carlene LeFevre with 15. Ron Hizzoner Koch, one of the most beloved eaters on the circuit and an incredibly accomplished photographer, tied with Carlene for third place.

"I recall the incredible showdown between Carlene and Ron during the Alka Seltzer US Open of Competitive Eating," said Nancy Goldstein of the IFOCE. "It would appear a rivalry is established as Ron has proven himself a force to be reckoned within a very short period of time on the circuit."
