Chestnut Delivers World Record Performance
07-18-2005
San Jose's Joey Chestnut broke the world rib eating record at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, OR by consuming 5 1/2 pounds of rib meat in 12 minutes.
The rib eating title previously had been held by Richard LeFevre of Nevada. LeFevre traveled to Lincoln City but failed to defend his title this year. He consumed 4.85 pounds for a second place finish. In third place was Scott "The Pork Slayer" Sayer of Oregon. The Slayer was followed by Carlene LeFevre and Isaac Parker, a local high school teacher who came in fifth.
“This kid Chestnut looks to be real,” said Richard Shea of the IFOCE. "He placed third at Nathan's on July 4th and now he unseats the veteran LeFevres in ribs. Chestnut is the one to watch as the fall circuits take shape.”
The Chinook Winds Casino is located at 1777 NW 44th Street in Lincoln City, OR. The eating extravaganza is part of the Chinook Winds’ “Smokin’ at the Ocean” food festival. There are spots available for the world championship and for an amateur contest on Saturday, July 16. This is an IFOCE event and the IFOCE will handle all registration. Interested individuals (over 18 years of age) may sign up on the events page of the IFOCE website.
