05-22-2005
Rich LeFevre extended his winning streak last week at the New York New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas by downing 27 Nathan's Famous hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes to win the Nevada championship and a seat in the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July contest in Coney Island.
LeFevre beat arch-rival Ron Koch, a fellow Nevadan who had vowed to come out on top. Koch ate 22 HDBs to place second and Carlene LeFevre at 18. Both Koch and Carlene LeFevre will move on to Tempe, AZ, on June 4 in hopes of securing a spot in Coney.
For his part, LeFevre has his sites set on 30 HDBs in 12 minutes. He has issued no formal proclamation, but fans know he wants to hit this milestone on July 4.
