Sweet Corn in Palm Beach

03-04-2005

Competitive eaters will make their annual pilgrimage to West Palm Beach, FL, on Sunday, April 24, for the National Sweet Corn-Eating Championship. The competition will take place as part of the Fifth Annual Sweet Corn Fiesta held at Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds.

The field of gurgitators will likely include America’s top-ranked eater, Ed “Cookie” Jarvis and IFOCE circuit stars including: “Jammin’” Joe LaRue of Hollywood, FL, and Michael Parish of Tamarel, FL. Jarvis set the world record of 33½ ears of corn in 12 minutes in 2004.

The 12-minute all-you-can-eat contest will feature ears of South Florida sweet corn-on-the-cob. The winner will receive a cash prize, along with the prestigious title of World Sweet Corn Eating Champion.

The event is sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, which will handle all registration. Those over the age of 18 may apply via the IFOCE.com website.
