Kobayashi Returns to NY to Defend World Hot-Dog Eating Titlen
05-07-2002
Japanese gurgitator Takeru Kobayashi, who last year doubled the world record in hot dog eating by downing an astounding 50 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes, has announced that he will return to defend his title at the 87th annual Nathan's Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest in Coney Island.
This year's contest will feature a total of 20 eaters from Japan, Germany, England, Thailand, Canada and the United States. To gain a seat at the table on July 4, all eaters must win one of regional qualifying contests throughout the United States and the world.
This year marks another milestone for the sport - BetWWTS.com, an online sportsbook - will offer odds and take wagers on the Fourth of July event. This is a major amenity for fans, who have asked repeatedly for the ability to bet on this contest.
