NEWCOMER DETHRONES CRAZY LEGS CONTI

04-12-2003

Nearly two thousand eating fans gathered in front of the Acme Stage during French Quarter Festival in New Orleans to watch Bayou Boyd Bulot of Hammond, Louisiana down 18 dozen Louisiana oysters in just 10 minutes.

With this accomplishment Bulot set a new world record and beat Crazy Legs Conti, who achieved instant celebrity after eating 14 dozen to win the 2002 title.

"I am very impressed by Bulot and the ease with which he smashed the old record by four dozen," said Stephanie Scherer, Marketing Director for the IFOCE. "The real question now is whether or not he can eat hot dogs."

The Acme Oyster House World Oyster Eating Championship is a major on the IFOCE circuit. Event sponsors include the Louisiana Seafood and Promotion Board, Tabasco Brands and Barq's Root Beer. Eating fans will be keeping a close eye on Bayou Boyd as he approaches the table to compete in the World Crawfish Eating Contest in Baton Rouge on May 2nd.
