84 Lumber Attracts State’s Best
10-28-2004
”Everything is big in Texas, and that includes my appetite,” said Randy Harrison of Seguin, TX. Harrison is registered to compete in this Saturday’s 84 Lumber World Baked Bean Eating Championship at the Grand Opening of the 84 Lumber Company in Stafford, Texas, itself a big facility that features a 24,000 square foot showroom.
Austin’s Levi Oliver and Houston’s Chris Huang are joining forces with Harrison to represent their beloved state of Texas at Saturday’s competition.
”I feel a special pride in representing the Lone Star State,” said Oliver. “I can’t let that pretty little lady from D.C. beat me in a baked bean eating contest now can I?”
For Huang the goal is a somewhat more clear-cut: “I want that 84 Lumber World Baked Bean Eating title and I want that prize money.”
Sonya Thomas will be flying into Texas to compete at this weekend’s Stafford event. In Dawsonville, Georgia last weekend, Boone consumed 84 ounces of beans in one minute 22 seconds- the fastest performance to date.
This is the fourth stop on the 84 Lumber World Baked Bean Eating Championship tour. Like all stops there is $2,000 of prize money on the line.
