$3,000.00 and Title on the Line at N.C. State Fair

$3,000.00 in prize money and the prestigious title of World Sweet Potato Casserole Eating Champion will be on the line Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 20, 2004 in Raleigh, NC at the North Carolina State Fair.

The contest is expected to draw a handful of the nation’s top ranked competitive eaters.

"The ability to eat starch-based casseroles in mass quantity fell out of favor in the late 20th Century, and those with skill in this area found that they were not celebrated by the public," said George Shea, Chairman of the International Federation of Competitive Eating. "However, in the first four years of the new century, casserole-eating has experienced a resurgence in popularity. This rebirth will culminate at the North Carolina State Fair."
