Winchell's Donut Final at LA Fair

09-21-2004

At stake is $1,500 in prize money and the prestigious title of World Donut-Eating Champion as America's top eaters travel to the Los Angeles County Fair for the Winchell's World Donut-Eating Championship.

Competing are Badlands Booker of New York, Joe LaRue of Florida, Richard and Carlene LeFevre of Nevada, Don Lerman of New York, Ray Meduna of Washington State, Chris Coble of California, Jed Donahue of Texas and Steve Amador, who will represent all college students in this endeavor.

The current Winchell's donut-eating record holder is Jalapeno Jed Donahue, who consumed 31 Winchell's donuts in eight minutes during the first Winchell's qualifier. Fans expect a heated match between Booker and Donahue for first place in the championship, and many handicappers believe Richard LeFevre may also take this title.

Headquartered in Santa Ana, Winchell's Donut House, "Home of the Warm 'n Fresh Donut™," is the West Coast's largest donut chain with roughly 200 units in 12 states, plus locations in Guam, Saipan, New Zealand, and Saudi Arabia. With more than 70 varieties of Warm 'n Fresh™ donuts and bakery products, Winchell's offers customers a diverse menu that includes: donuts, cinnamon rolls, muffins, bagels, croissants, brownies and cookies. Winchell’s also offers delicious frozen Chillas in four refreshing flavors: mocha cappucino, caramel cappuccino, pina colada and orange.
