Downtown Atlantic Cheesecake

Eaters are preparing for the Downtown Atlantic Cheesecake Eating Contest to be held as part of the 30th annual Atlantic Antic festival on Sunday, September 26, 2004 on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn.
Badlands Booker is scheduled to return to defend his title in the six-minute contest, featuring the extraordinarily light Downtown Atlantic cheesecake. Booker consumed nearly 12 pounds last year.
The six-minute, all-you-can-eat contest, sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, featured individual, quarter-pound Downtown Atlantic cheesecakes.
“The demand for our cheesecakes has been significant since we opened last year,” said Chris Sippel, general manager of the Downtown Atlantic. “But our baking ovens face the ultimate challenge when the world’s greatest eaters show up.”
In addition to the individual cheesecakes, the Downtown Atlantic offers six- and nine-inch cheesecakes and cakes made to order wholesale for all occasions.
“Downtown Atlantic cheesecakes are among the lightest and most delectable cheesecakes in the world and they have achieved a reputation as a fast cheesecake,” said IFOCE chair George Shea.
The winner of the contest will receive a trophy, a romance weekend at the Marriott Hotel at the Brooklyn Bridge and the title of World Cheesecake Eating Champion.
The winning eater will also receive a coveted place on the Wall of Fame of the Downtown Atlantic, a 60-seat restaurant, bar and bakery that serves “haute comfort cuisine” to the neighborhoods of Downtown Brooklyn. The restaurant’s baking facility serves the entire city.
This is an IFOCE event and the IFOCE will handle all registration. Those over 18 may register via info@ifoce.com.
