Lobster A Team Event
07-27-2004
The World Lobster-Eating Championship, which will be held as part of the World Lobster-Eating Festival on Saturday, August 21, 2004 next to the Taint Town Bridge in Kennebunkport, Maine, will feature a unique team component.
Each eater will be paired with a cracker, competitive eating's version of a golf caddie. Both eater and cracker will be free to crack the shell and extricate the lobster meat, but only the eater may consume the meat.
Maine resident Kevin Cross will attempt to defend his championship title and possession of "The Claw," the coveted championship belt of lobster-eating supremacy, against the world's best competitive eaters. Cookie Jarvis is expected to attend with Allan Goldstein, a rising star on the eating circuit.
While Cross is a veteran with enormous capacity, Jarvis and Goldstein are considered to have a slight leg up -- both are know for jaw strength, which is critical in lobster.
The eating contest is sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating and the IFOCE will handle all registration. Those over the age of 18 may register by emailing Info@IFOCE.com.
Fresh Maine lobster, lobster rolls, clam chowder bread bowls, grilled chicken and burgers will be available for the lowest prices in Maine, as will cold beer and Margaritas. Admission is $3.00 (Free for those under 10) On-site parking is available.
