Swellin' With Melon
06-28-2004
The annual Brookville Community Picnic in Brookville, Ohio on Saturday, July 24, 2004, will feature tractor pulling, bingo, a 5k run and the first-ever officially sanctioned watermelon-eating contest known as “Swellin’ With Melon.”
“This is an exciting addition to our annual competitive eating circuit,” said David Baer of the IFOCE. “Watermelon is a discipline requested by many competitive eaters, and with a significant purse on the line I expect to see some big talent heading to Ohio to challenge Brookville’s greatest.”
The 15-minute eating contest will be a highlight of the annual Brookville Community Picnic, which runs from Thursday, July 22 to Saturday, July 24.
“Our annual picnic is in its 54th year and we are happy to be hosting such an exciting contest,” said Margo Cantrell of the Brookville Chamber of Commerce. “Swellin’ with Melon is a natural summertime event and it is sure to draw our area’s most competitive individuals. I am confident that Brookville can hold its own in the international competitive eating arena.”
The IFOCE will handle all registration -- there are still spots open. Those interested in competing, who are 18 years and over, can email melon@ifoce.com or call (212) 627-5766 to register for the contest.
The contest is sponsored by DG Equipment Company, Inc., Brookville Roadster, New Lebanon Body, Frame & Tech, Red Baron Towing, and Brookhaven Lifecare Community. The Brookville Chamber of Commerce is organizing the Community Picnic.
