Esper Takes Ice Cream Crown

08-06-2018

Indianapolis, IN Well, will you look at that? Geoffrey Esper ate 15.5 pints of ice cream in six minutes to claim the second annual World’s Ice Cream Eating Championship At The Indiana State Fair. This is the same Geoffrey Esper who won the Fresno Tacos World Taco Championship before that, and who won the Vaughan Pizza Fest International Pizza Championship before that. Three events, three wins in a row. They call that a three-peat because that’s what it is. Hail, Esper! He has cemented his reputation as not only one of the contemporary greats of the league, but as one of the greats of all-time. Speak of him when you speak the hallowed names.

Esper, man. An Indiana State Fair employee named Alexis, tasked with the crucial responsibility of in-contest ice-cream resupply, mentioned, sotto voce, to the emcee on duty at the three-minute mark with head nod toward Esper, “That dude is a machine.” Yes. He is fast, he is clean, he wastes no effort, and he’s . . . like Joey Chestnut? Not today he wasn’t, but that’s on Chestnut. The #1-ranked eater in the world remarked after the event that he struggled with rhythm and cleanliness; he incurred a debris penalty as a result. He would finish with 14.5 pints, half a pint shy of his personal best. Miki Sudo’s record of 16.5 pints of ice cream in six minutes withstood this afternoon.

Full results are below. In closing, a warm thanks to everyone at the Indiana State Fair and to the great people of Indiana.
