Sweet corn! It’s back! Major League Eating is proud to announce the return of the National Sweet Corn Eating Championship to our 2022 season of sanctioned eating championships. The event is a true mainstay of the MLE circuit. To compete in this event is to see our sport’s grand past and to participate in its living, breathing self with every bite.
The contest, as is tradition, will be held at the Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairground as part of the Sweet Corn Fiesta celebration of all things corn-based and good. This year marks the Fiesta’s 22nd anniversary. Major League Eaters from near and far are warmly encouraged to sign up for their chance to test themselves against ear of Florida sweet corn after ear of Florida sweet corn over 12 minutes of arduous competition.
At the 2021 event, the great Gideon Oji ate 57 ears of Florida sweet corn in 12 minutes to claim the title—tying his 2019 winning total in the process. Darron Breeden would finish second with 52, while former Sweet Corn Champion Crazy Legs Conti came third with 39. At this year’s event, Carmen Cincotti’s world record of 61.75 ears in 12 minutes will be on the line.
Who will be named king or queen of corn? Will you set a new world record? Do you simply want to watch the best corn eaters in the world do what they do so well? This is the 2022 National Sweet Corn Eating Championship—at the table or in the crowd, don’t you ever miss it!
