The RP Funding World Chili Eating Challenge

Location: Orlando, FL
Date: 03-07-2015
Winner: Joey Chestnut, with a new WR 2.1875 gallons in 6 min!

There were two winners at Major League Eating's 2015 edition of The RP Funding World Chili Eating Challenge Presented By P&G: Joey Chestnut and you. He claimed the glory. You got schooled by greatness.

What did we learn on March 7, 2015, in the afternoon light of Orlando on the cusp of Spring? Many things. One, Joey Chestnut can eat him some chili. The world's #1-ranked eater set a new WR in the discipline, previously held by himself. The new WR is 2.1875 gallons of chili in 6 minutes. That is 8.75 32oz bowls. That is a lot. "A lot" is not an accurate measurement and has no place in the annals of MLE History; we prefer the cruel science of numbers. But in this instance it paints a richer picture. It was a lot. Know that.

We also learned that Miki Sudo is a pure capacity eater when she is on point. Ms Sudo kept pace with the great Chestnut throughout the contest and finished in second place with a haul of 7.25 32oz bowls, a number that will no doubt strike fear into the hearts of her rivals as the season unfolds.

We learned that chili is not to be feared. At this event, Michelle Lesco defeated her Fear Of Chili—FOC—in high style. She had never competed in the discipline before this event, concerned about the adverse effects of surplus chili. She needed not to fear. There is a lesson there somewhere. Fear itself, or something. Carpe diem. Eat the chili. Strike the bells. Fire the guns. Smoke em if you got em.

Finally, we learned that The RP Funding World Chili Eating Challenge at the Orlando Chili Cookoff is one of MLE's toughest tests, one in which only the brave, strong, pure and hungry can prevail.

And that concludes the lesson.

Pop quiz on Monday. Have a great weekend.
