Nathan's July 4 Event Info

06-07-2010

The greatest competitive eaters on earth will gather on the corner of Surf and Stillwell avenues in Coney Island at high noon on Sunday, July 4, 2010 to compete in the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, an event that has been held each year since 1916, according to archives.

Last year, Joey Chestnut – the number-one-ranked eater in the world – defeated a field of 18 other eaters from around the world in front of a crowd of 35,000 fans by consuming 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.

The contest is free and open to the public. The contest pre-show begins at 10 a.m. with the Motown band, X-cluzive with Sonni Dey, featuring a special appearance by popular DJ 80HD. From 11 am to 12 pm, the stage show will feature varied entertainment, including the world renowned Skyriders trampoline performers, acrobatic and magical acts by the Ringling Bros. Circus and musical numbers by rapper Badlands Booker.

Beginning at 12 pm eaters are introduced and the contest is conducted. ESPN has exclusive rights to broadcast live from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. All media is welcome.

Those fans planning to attend the contest will want to arrive early.

For those on mass transit, take the subway -- D, F, Q, N -- to the final stop, Stillwell Avenue. You will not be able to miss it from there. Those driving will want to take the Belt Parkway to Exit 6, Cropsey Avenue, and head south toward the water until you hit Surf Avenue. Take a left and you will see Nathan's on the right at Stillwell Avenue.

Other attractions in Coney Island include the Cyclone, Wonder Wheel and Coney Island USA.
