Conti over LaRue in One Minute OT

04-15-2006

The Nathan's Famous circuit kicked off today in Florida in a fashion befitting the hype the 2006 qualifiers have received.

Jammin' Joe LaRue, the 2005 Florida Nathan's champ was in Sunrise to defend his title. LaRue was confident going in, despite the fact that he'd been on hiatus of late. The contest came down to a tie, and overtime was forced. In the end, it was a judge's call. Detritus was analyzed and Conti came away the victor.

Conti has one stop before Coney on July 4. He'll be in Boston on Monday running the marathon. While not a runner, Jammin' Joe has great endurance and will surely be back at it soon.
