Black Widow Declines Wild Card Offer, Krystal Field Set

Badlands Booker and Juris Shibayama both ate 51 Krystals in qualifiers and are both holding wild cards. Erik The Red and Crazy Legs each ate a personal best of 50 in a Krystal qualifier this year and they each competed twice. Crazy Legs consumed 48 in the lesser of his two qualifying attempts and Erik The Red ate 43 in the lesser of his. The combined total prevails and Crazy Legs Conti secures the third wild card of 2008.

The KSO V field is as follows:

Joey Chestnut (defending champ)
Bob Shoudt (Chattanooga champ)
Hall Hunt (Jacksonville champ)
Pat Bertoletti (Atlanta champ)
Juliet Lee (Nashville champ)
Eater X (Knoxville champ)
Takeru Kobayashi (Birmingham champ)
Rich LeFevre (Memphis champ)
Badlands Booker (Wild Card)
Juris Shibayama (Wild Card)
Crazy Legs Conti (Wild Card)

While the Krystal Square Off has been a battleground for some of the biggest bouts in competitive eating, Krystal has always made local amateurs a major part of the event ever since the first Krystal Square Off in 2004 when thousands competed in qualifiers around the South and amateurs Matt Ward and Sam “Big Country” Vise moved up the ranks to make the finals in Chattanooga.

This year, Krystal will select a 12th eater from the home-town crowd at KSO-V. Registration for The 12th Eater will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. this Sunday on the green space located above the Ross’s Landing amphitheater on the 21st Century Waterfront in Downtown Chattanooga. Registrants must be 18 and over and willing to sign a waiver to appear live on television. The individual will be selected from the audience immediately before the contest begins at 2:00 p.m.
