MLE Gives – Summer 2008

MLEgives, the charitable initiative of Major League Eating, is embracing the summer circuit by announcing a new round of funding for hunger relief charities.

While Major League Eating and the IFOCE have long supported charities on a local and national level, 2008 marks the first year that MLE is donating funds to assuage hunger overseas with cash donations to the United Nations’ World Food Program. The league is also funding numerous Second Harvest-approved food banks throughout the United States, with donations in cities such as New Orleans, Chicago and New York.

“With our 2008 summer circuit donations we bring the MLEgives fundraising total to $50,000,” said George Shea, chairman of Major League Eating. “In just six months we are half-way to realizing the $100,000 charitable goal we announced last November.”

MLE also continues its tradition of supporting charitable organizations beyond hunger relief. Earlier this year, the league donated its services to a cancer center in Texas and, on June 1st, MLE will once again hold a Nathan’s Famous event at Boston’s Hot Dog Safari, an annual fundraiser that helps in the fight against cystic fibrosis.
