$26,000 RAISED FOR HUNGER, DISASTER RELIEF
This fundraising effort, ifoceGIVES, has raised more than $26,000 for America's Second Harvest and the American Red Cross.
Waffle House Restaurants, Krystal Hamburgers, the National Buffalo Wing Festival, GoldenPalace.com and the IFOCE already have donated funds with plans to raise more in upcoming weeks.
Waffle House Restaurants donated $10,000 to kick off fundraising events at its waffle-eating event in Atlanta. Waffle House contest winner Joey Chestnut made an amazingly generous donation of $2,500 of his prize money to the relief fund.
Krystal Hamburgers, donating $1 for every Krystal hamburger eaten during all preliminary rounds this weekend and gathering donations from fans, topped more than $5,000.
The National Buffalo Wing Festival, which occurs in Buffalo on Labor Day Weekend, raised more than $5,000 for Gulf Coast relief -- more than $1,000 of which was raised through the eating contest. Both Brian Subich and Jim Reeves made generous individual donations. GoldenPalace.com is planning significant donations as well.
The IFOCE will match donations up to $10,000.
The ifoceGIVES initiative will be overseen by former IFOCE Commissioner Michael DeVito, who has assumed the role of IFOCE Director of Philanthropy. In his new role, DeVito will expand the reach of IFOCE hunger-related efforts, increasing volunteering at food banks and food kitchens and seeking donations of food and financial resources to support charities.
Past IFOCE efforts have helped benefit America’s Second Harvest, The Joey Fund for Cystic Fibrosis, Joan’s Legacy and numerous food banks throughout the United States.
