Big Holiday On Tap
Nathan’s Famous will qualify two champions for the 2005 Nathan’s Famous International Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Championship. The first will come from Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love. Unfortunately, Bob Shoudt and Brian Subich are not brothers, and the going may get rough on the mall of the Independence Visitor Center when the contest begins at 12 noon.
The second Nathan’s competitor will come from across the pond at the first-ever qualifier to occur in Nottingham, UK. George Shea, who recently saw Spamalot on Broadway and is a self-described “cheddar fanatic,” will be in England for the proceedings.
Back in Dixie, the Armour Vienna Sausage Eating Championship is slated to occur trackside at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway prior to the Busch Race on Saturday, May 28. A total of $8,500 is on the line at this event. Apparently money talks as Armour is drawing gurgitators from all corners of the U.S. for this one.
It’s summer once again and the IFOCE promises to reach the beaches and rock the shores. Nathan’s will sponsor contests along the Atlantic in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Norfolk, VA, and then of course the daddy of them all at America’s original beach, Coney Island on July 4th. The world Salty Ball eating championship will occur in Wildwood, NJ, ribs will fly oceanside in Oregon, and lobsters are set to boil in Kennebunkport, Maine. Stay tuned.
