History was made on January 21, 2006 at 1 p.m. when competitive eating’s finest gurgitators descended upon the Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV, for one of the sport’s greatest challenges: devouring the monstrous nine-pound Big Daddy Burger at the Plaza Casino Big Daddy Burger Eating Contest.
The prize money was broken down as follows: $4,000 for first place; $2,500 for second place; $1,500 for third place; $1,000 for fourth place; $750 for fifth place and $450 for sixth, $300 for seventh and $200 for eighth place. Pro Competitors will also receive free lodging compliments of the luxurious Plaza Hotel and Casino.
Sonya 'The Black Widow' Thomas retained her title by devouring the monstrous 9 LB burger in only 27 minutes. The victory earns Thomas $4,000 in prize money, out of a total purse of over $10,000 that was divided up amongst the top eight finishers. In a close second place, finishing less than half a pound behind Thomas, was distance and capacity specialist Rich 'The Locust' LeFevre, and in third was JAWS Chestnut.
