World, know this: On Friday, June the 9th, you want to be at Ribfest Chicago—that great city's annual celebration of the many benefits of living a rib-centric, rib-focused lifestyle. More pointedly for Major League Eaters, you will want to be on the Chicago Reader stage at 6pm for RibMania VIII at Ribfest Chicago XIX. RibMania at Ribfest Chicago has long used Roman numerals to mark the passage of the event, year upon year; for the uneducated Visigoths and Gauls among you, this year’s event is RibMania 8 at Ribfest Chicago 14. But try the Roman numerals, at least in conversation. It’s fun. Needless to say, Major League Eaters from near and far are warmly invited to sign up to compete in this Championship event.
Last year's event—RibMania VII at Ribfest Chicago XIX, Adrian “The Rabbit” Morgan logged his first win at the event in a display of focused, controlled powerhouse eating. Final tally: 2.951lb of meat in eight minutes of sanctioned competition. He would edge the #1-ranked female eater in the world, Ms Miki Sudo, by just two ounces of succulent rib meat.
But that was last year. This is this year. We have reached the end of history and there is little point looking our shoulders any more. Onward. Forward. To Chicago’s bucolic north side in late spring. To RibMania VIII at Ribfest Chicago XIX. At the table or in the crowd—don't you ever miss it!
