STONIE SETS WORLD SILVER DOLLAR PANCAKE EATING RECORD!
Let it be known that no one could touch the mighty Matt Stonie at the inaugural World Silver Dollar Pancake Eating Championship. From starter's gun to the tape, he demonstrated why he is the #1-ranked eater in the world with a textbook display of controlled power. Final wash-up: 113 1oz Silver Dollar Pancakes went from plate to stomach. In doing so, Matthew Stonie set a World Record, much to the satisfaction of the attendants at Chico, CA's Silver Dollar Fair.
The naysayers and bores could well point to the fact that no Silver Dollar Pancake had existed before and that Stonie's mark was simply the best to date above zero. That would be missing the point entirely: This was not a record by default, this was a record by the grace of God. If you were there, you would know why. If not, then you'll have to trust us or deny the truth. Your call.
Veteran Rich LeFevre impressed with 89 for second, despite his mind being plagued with thoughts of how he would make it to Sacramento airport after the contest in time for his flight home. It is a credit to Mr. Lefebvre’s mind that he was able to set aside his doubts and fears for eight minutes and eat with a simple clarity that younger eaters could well emulate. (No update on whether Rich made his flight.) Steve Hendry pushed hard for third; Erik Denmark had a tough day at the office, by his own frank estimation. He was gracious in coming fourth. Bu the first-ever World Silver Dollar Pancake Eating Championship belonged to one man and his people—Matt Stonie and his legion of fans. His youthful army was in full force in Chico, CA. Their leader did not disappoint.
