STONIE DEFENDS BIRTHDAY CAKE CROWN!
Matt "The Megatoad" Stonie claimed the second annual Palm Beach Outlets World Birthday Cake-Eating Championship by eating 12.81 lb of Birthday Cake in eight minutes. In doing so, he defended his title and once more declared that when it comes to cake, Stonie is boss.
It was a close-run thing, however The West Palm Beach crowd could sense as much during the contest's tense middle passage. Miki Sudo—the world's #1-ranked female eater—gained on Stonie and at some stages appeared to have surpassed him. In the end, she would lose by just half a slice of cake—five measly ounces separated first and second. Gideon Oji and Geoffrey Esper continued their impressive first 12 months as Major League Eaters with a tie for third place; Oji would have claimed third for himself if not for debris. He would later explain that his large hands made it difficult to handle the soft buttercream-filled cake with the required delicate touch. Indeed, dude mangled each slice into submission. He will learn from the experience and emerge all the better for it.
As will each and every one of the people who attended this event. It was the day before Valentine's Day, after all, and what better way to celebrate love and romance than by watching Major League Eaters do what they do so well. Competitive eating is the sport of love.
