The Western Days Festival World Tamale Eating Championship Presented By Market Street

Location: Lewisville, TX
Date: 09-24-2016
Winner: Adrian Morgan, with 63 tamales in 12 minutes

ADRIAN MORGAN CLAIMS HIS FIRST TAMALE TITLE!

Adrian "The Rabbit" Morgan ate 63 2oz Market St tamales in 12 minutes to win the 2016 Western Days Festival World Tamale Eating Championship Presented By Market Street. It was his first win in this discipline. By his display of precise, controlled power eating, it will not be his last.

Morgan found a rhythm early in the contest and did not waiver or falter. Each plate of Market St tamales gave themselves willingly to his cause—there was no fight, simply a smooth and relentless march until the clock read 0:00. Morgan's effort resembled a perpetual motion machine specifically designed to consume tamales. His performance was eerily quiet, as though he was practicing some sacred rite.

Juan Rodriguez moved a lot more than Morgan but ate less. His moves were, as you would likely think, beautiful, his chiseled quads tensing and swaying with every bite. Juan does not skip leg day and you should not either. Josh Miller continued his quiet improvement at the table to finish third; Steve Schuster came fourth in his first non-Hot Dog And Bun contest. Hat tip, too, to fifth-place finisher Nasty Nate Biller. This year's contest marked the 10th anniversary of Nate's first Western Days Festival World Tamale Eating Championship effort. He is engaged to be married and Major League Eating wishes him and his family all the very best.
