REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS CLOSED DUE TO CAPACITY!

The greatest eater in the history of humanity again displayed his chili-eating prowess and power to win the 2015 installment of the Ben’s Chili Bowl’s World Chili Eating Championship at The Taste of DC. Joey Chestnut ate 1.8125 gallons of Ben's Chili Bowl chili in six minutes to secure the win. In doing so, he defended his title, silenced the voice in his head and reminded each and every one present at the arena that when Chestnut eats, food lives in fear.

The chili discipline is not bogged down by finesse or technique. It is an elemental food discipline that asks little of contestants but demands so much more. No fidgeting, no fussing—just straight up eating. There is no hiding in the chili discipline. And there is certainly no crying. This is the real deal, where pure eating strength is laid bare. Wheat from chaff, and so on.

Chestnut was pushed throughout by the great Eater X, competing for the first time in sanctioned competition in over three months. Eater X, a former Ben's Chili Bowl Chili Champion, simply could not keep pace with Chestnut over the six-minute event and would settle for a comfortable second. Gideon Oji came third, again displaying his eating talents. He will be a force in 2016, mark my words.

The true winner, though, was, again, our great republic. For on this day, men and women, young and old, from all walks of life, having descended to this moment from all corners of the globe, enjoyed a beautiful fall afternoon at the Taste of DC in our nation's great capital. To spend six minutes in stunned wonder, gazing at the feats of Major League Eaters doing what they do so well while all around you feel exactly the same thing is to remind ourselves that E Pluribus Unum ain't going any where anytime soon.
