JOEY CHESTNUT CLAIMS 2015 BUFFALO BUFFET BOWL!
The greatest eater in the history of mankind put on a powerhouse display of capacity eating at the 2015 installment of The Buffalo Buffet Bowl. The event is a celebration of the range and breadth of cuisine in the 716. From the bold southern flavors of Hamburg to the hearty fare of Lockport to the north, there is no metropolitan area in the United States—nay, the world—that offers diners a broader taste palette than Buffalo. At the 2015 event, eaters faced five pounds of pizza, beef on weck and Buffalo-sauced chicken nuggets that, frankly, were the size of snooker balls and had no business being called chicken nuggets. Joey Chestnut ate his five-pound allotment in just seven minutes and 17 seconds to take first prize.
Sonya Thomas lodged her first sanctioned win over arch rival Miki Sudo at this event. Thomas was entirely focussed on the task last hand and consumed her five pounds in nine minutes and 18 seconds; Sudo lagged for third, eating hers in 10 minutes and 32 seconds. The scope of the achievement was not lost on Thomas, who beamed with pride—but a good pride, not the pride that gets people into trouble thinking they are all that—following the event. It was a joy to see her smile.
