Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI, will host a sanctioned hot dog-eating contest on Sunday August 17th, 2014, to qualify the champions who will compete in the 2015 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest. The contest will take place before the Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race. The top male and top female finishers from this qualifier will earn a trip to compete at the ESPN-televised finals at the original Nathan’s Famous in Coney Island on July 4th, 2015.
In recent years, an estimated 35,000 fans have made the pilgrimage to the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island to watch the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog-Eating Contest in person. Joey Chestnut of San Jose, CA, holds the world record for eating 69 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs and Buns in 10 minutes, and he will seek his ninth straight title in 2015—a world record. Miki Sudo of Las Vegas, NV, will defend her title as Female Champion. She consumed 34 Hot Dogs and Buns in 10 minutes in 2014.
The Nathan’s Famous qualifying tour is conducted each year in cities across the U.S. and beyond. Other qualifying events for the 2015 season are to be determined.
