Pat "Deep Dish" Bertoletti gave the world another reason to view him as the top eater in the world after successfully defending his Isle Casino Racing Pickle Eating World Championship. Bertoletti ate 5.2 lbs of pickles in 6 minutes for his astounding 18th win of 2011.
Separating himself from the field early on, Bertoletti finished more than a pound ahead of #5-ranked Bob "Notorious B.O.B." Shoudt who ate 3.4 lbs.
Newcomer Stephen Piccolo, from St. Petersburg, surprised many in his MLE debut by eating 2.4 lbs to take third place.
A group of three Florida pros battled it out for the final two payouts and, in the end, Jon Bello, of Jacksonville, and Sean "Wrecking Ball" Brockert, of Jupiter, edged out Bruce "Ghostpepperz" Ollis by a few spears.
The win marked the 8th Isle of Capri eating championship for Bertoletti, more than anyone in history.
