Upper Crust World Pizza Eating Championship

Location: Boston, MA
Date: 09-25-2010
Winner: Joey Chestnut

Joey Chestnut capped off a busy September month with one more win at The Upper Crust World Pizza Eating Championship at the Phantom Gourmet Food Fest in Boston.

Chestnut, who took first place in burritos and brats the previous two weekends, ate 39 slices of Upper Crust pizza to capture the title and the $2,500 first-place prize in front of a raucous capacity crowd at House of Blues.

Jetlag almost caught up with the San Jose native as the Notorious B.O.B. Shoudt lead for much of the contest. As the world has come to expect from it's best eater, Chestnut made his move in the final minutes and edged Shoudt by 3 slices.

In somewhat of a surprise, Pat Bertoletti didn't contend for the top spot and finished in third place with 29 slices.

Boston's Pete "Pretty Boy" Davekos took the home-field advantage as far as possible finishing with 23 slices and the top spot for MA natives.

ABOUT THE UPPER CRUST PIZZERIA In 2001, Jordan Tobins brought the simple concept of traditional Neapolitan-style pizza (thin crust, chunky sauce) to an urban setting and founded the Upper Crust Pizzeria, opening in a small storefront on Beacon Hill's historic Charles Street.

Today, Boston pizza-lovers can visit any of the area's seventeen locations to enjoy unique pies created in an open-kitchen atmosphere and served up in award-winning architectural spaces.

Whether grabbing a slice to go or settling in with friends to watch the hometown team on HDTV screens throughout the restaurant, guests can be sure they are in for a mouth-watering experience unlike any other.

Each Upper Crust specialty pizza is made with the freshest ingredients, from hand-rolled dough baked to thin-crust perfection, to savory toppings from the common - pepperoni and mushrooms - to the uncommon - try our bacon, fresh pineapple, and jalapenos combo.
