State Fair Meadowlands World Pigs's Feet Eating Championship

Location: East Rutherford, NJ
Date: 06-23-2007
Winner: Arturo Rios, Jr.

On June 23, the nation looked to the State Fair Meadowlands at Giants Stadium Fairgrounds for the World Pig's Feet Eating Championship. Some of the best Major League Eaters in the country vied for the title and a new IFOCE record was set.

Arturo Rios, Jr. won the Pigs Feet-Eating Contest at the New Jersey State Fair, beating out Eric Denmark, who took second, Crazy Legs Conti, who placed third, and Pat from Moonachie, who trailed badly and came in fourth.

The event, which featured 11-pound trays of pigs feet and pigs knuckles (boiled and sptitzed with lemon juice), was the first of its kind in eating history and provided Rios with his fist major title.

Pigs' feet proved challenging for these athletes who are used to more palatable disciplines such as Krystal hamburgers, Nathan's hot dogs, and Shoo-fly Pie.

Fairgoers can kick off the summer with over 150 rides and attractions for all ages. The Fair features free nightly entertainment, including magic, daredevils, adorable animals and a comedic hypnotist. This year’s new acts include the Belmont Festival of Magic, the Fearless Flores Thrill Show, the Great American Frontier Show, comedic juggler Dale Jones and Cow Town USA. Returning acts include Rosaire’s Racing Pigs, Commerford’s Educational Petting Zoo and Hypnotist Steve Bayner. Strolling musicians and costumed characters will also provide entertainment throughout the grounds.

Over 75 food vendors will offer an astonishing array of gastronomic treats, including cheese steaks, barbeque, pizza, Greek, Asian and Mexican delicacies, salads, ice cream, funnel cake and of course, cotton candy. This year, the Fair will also offer a Glatt Kosher stand. Fair visitors can work off some calories in the shopping zone, which will feature CDs, DVDs, jewelry, clocks, clothing, arts & crafts, candles and more.
